This rat's nest looks a lot worse than it really is. You remove a few plastic trim pieces then remove the driver's knee protector by removing three 12 mm bolts. (Leave the 4 10 mm nuts in place). The bar hanging on the right was diagonal and needed to be dropped by loosening the 12 mm nut at the upper end. A couple plastic clips hold the fuse box in place. When they are unclipped the box swings down. Plugs from various wiring harnesses connect in the rat's nest of wires.

VW Eurovan common problem. Wires in driver door wire harness get broken. Impacts power windows and mirrors. Solution: replace wiring harness ($280) or a lot of splicing that might not hold.
